The purpose of the David Scott School is to provide a supportive and structured educational environment where young people who have experienced barriers to engagement can re-establish connection with learning. Through an integrated focus on education, wellbeing and pathways, the School supports students to participate meaningfully in their education, build capability over time, and progress toward positive post-school options.
The David Scott School has been established to deliver an individualised, high‑quality specialist senior secondary vocational education that focuses on the integrated domains of best‑practice teaching and learning, wellbeing, pathways and career transition support.
The School’s mission is to support young people to become confident, competent and critical‑thinking learners, taught by skilled staff who collaborate and contribute to learning communities through evidence‑informed practice.
This work enables communities of practice to coordinate their resources to support the goals of young people and, where appropriate, to contribute to broader understanding of effective educational practice for students who have experienced disengagement from mainstream schooling.
The School provides extensive educational support for young people marginalised from mainstream educational settings as a consequence of complex personal circumstances, with the aim of supporting re‑engagement, progression and completion of secondary education.
Our vision is that the students we work with receive a high‑quality, personalised education that supports them to reach their potential and prepares them to live constructive, socially connected and personally satisfying lives.
Our student‑centred approach supports young people to be change‑ready, learning‑ready and future‑ready, recognising that readiness is developed over time through consistent, supportive relationships and responsive educational practice.
This work supports local and educational communities to harness the resources required to assist young people to pursue their goals and, where appropriate, to use collective efforts to inform broader educational practice and system improvement.
The School has three expectations that underpin all communication and interactions within the David Scott School community. Co‑designed with students and explicitly referenced in daily practice, these expectations are:
- Be productive
- Be supportive
- Be mindful
INDIVIDUALITY
Valuing diversity and recognising each student as an individual with unique experiences, strengths and aspirations.
EQUALITY
Acting with fairness and integrity, free from bias, and ensuring access to opportunity and support for all members of the school community.
KNOWLEDGE SEEKING
Maintaining a commitment to learning, reflection and growth, supporting lifelong learning and informed participation in society.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Taking responsibility for actions and decisions, striving for personal best, and contributing positively to the school community.
The vision, mission and values of David Scott School underpin all aspects of the School’s operation. This includes teaching and learning programs, wellbeing and pathways supports, staff practice, governance, community engagement, documentation, and organisational structures.
The School implements regular evaluation and review processes to monitor performance, ensure alignment with its purpose, and support continuous improvement across educational, operational and governance domains.
